Old-Time Songs on Cigar Box Guitar

Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss

Old-Time song blending “Shady Grove” and “Weevily Wheat”

A great old-time song that comes from the square dance and frolic song tradition. The tune and lyrics intertwine with two others songs: “Shady Grove” and “Weevily Wheat.” These three songs have been known to over overlapping and intersecting lyrics and melodies.

I’ve taken this great old song and given it a tune-up with electric 4-string cigar box guitar plugged into a Fender Bullet 15 DSP amp and a homemade foot stomp box plugged into a Fender BXR bass amp.

Darling Corey | Dig a Hole in the Meadow

Bluegrass Old-Time song on cigar box guitar

“Dig a Hole in the Meadow,” “Darlin’ Cora,” call it what you will, this has been one of my favorite songs since I first heard Pete Seeger do it. Since then I’ve loved so many versions of it, including the Monroe Brothers’ version “Dig a Hole in the Meadow.”

Here it is on cigar box electric guitar through a Vox Amp.

Like what you’re hearing ? Scott & his cigar box are booking sets now.

Early, Early in the Spring

Traditional English Folk Ballad | Appalachian Folk Song

A great old song that I first heard Judy Collins’ sing on an old folk song compilation LP in my parents’ basement called: “Folk Song ‘65”. It’s a great song and I do it here on slightly amped up cigar box guitar.
